On behalf of the Environment Manager team here at AppSense, I am pleased to announce the release of EM 8, Feature Release 4 (FR4). This is another great release that provides many new capabilities that will enable our enterprise customers to efficiently manage their users’ environment.
The development of FR4 has been another great example collaborative work with our customers and partners. We have worked closely with our community through our Agile Sprint showcases, alphas and betas to define and refine the new functionality. Our focus in this release has been on streamlining the activities of the many teams (internal or outsourced) that configure our software in larger organizations.
Highlights in this new area of functionality include:
- Configuration Layering
Enabling multiple teams in the enterprise to work on the parts of the configuration they are responsible for. Different layers can be worked on – perhaps referencing core layers with common configuration components, like re-usable conditions – and then merged together automatically in the console.
- Change Tracking
When developing a configuration, a history of changes can be kept. Useful in its own right for compliance, this capability becomes particularly important when layering configurations that have been developed by different teams. A centralized change control process can quickly identify which changes have been made and by whom.
- Endpoint Merging
What happens when a quick, out-of-band change to a configuration is required? Rather than re-test a large, monolithic configuration, EM will now support the merging of multiple configurations on the endpoint, allowing our users to quickly deploy a new or updated configuration to the whole estate or the required group of users.
Below is a video overview of the Configuration Layering and Change Tracking functionality:
Across all of the AppSense DesktopNow products, we are also introducing the ability to deliver patches (MSPs) for fixes and Service Packs (more information on this in a blog post here). This capability will enable our customers to be more agile in their adoption of new versions and is further evidence of the status of AppSense as a top tier vendor in the enterprise.
And there’s more! – much more!
I recommend having a look at our “What’s New in EM8 FR4”. This includes further templates for configuring applications to get personalization up and running quickly, new API documentation enabling you to script and automate a policy configuration, further support for additional Microsoft platforms and other performance enhancements and optimizations.
