After just 3 short years from Microsoft Windows 7 arriving in our world, Microsoft has officially launched Windows 8.  Bringing with it not just the new “Modern” interface, but a whole range of new feature and functionality along with a completely new platform in Windows RT.

At AppSense we recognize just what a huge feat it is to bring a completely new version of a product to market, and when that product is Windows, the most widely deployed desktop operating system on the planet, it is simply, an epic task.

Microsoft, we applaud you.

The launch of Windows 8 is an exciting time for us here at AppSense.  As a partner holding the Gold Desktop Competency in Microsoft’s partner program AppSense recognize that Windows 8 and Windows RT bring new challenges along with fantastic opportunities for customers to innovate.

Microsoft’s own view of Windows 8 in the Enterprise echo’s the AppSense view of People-Centric computing- Allowing users to choose the devices they love, and provide appropriate access Enterprise grade solutions.

Connecting all these new devices into an Enterprise is going to bring interesting new challenges. Although there is an expectation that the Enterprise will remain on Windows 7 for some time, BYOD has rapidly become the expected norm and both Windows 8 and Windows RT devices will appear in your organizations very soon.

With all this in mind AppSense has been hard at work testing our software against Windows 8, and investigating new ways of extending the same levels of control you expect from AppSense to the new Windows RT platform.

AppSense technologies are today broadly compatible with Windows 8, and we will be producing a TechNote soon that gives specific details. Keep an eye on our knowledge-base for details.

Here at AppSense we’re very aware that deploying a new desktop operating system can seem like a daunting task. Sorting through the wealth of information about deployment can be overwhelming. Microsoft can provide a comprehensive, step-by-step guide to each step in the Windows deployment process from application compatibility testing and volume activation to image creation and data migration.  While, as a Gold Desktop partner, AppSense has a range of  solutions that continue to enable you to rapidly deploy your new desktop, and help you to manage  the “unmanaged” devices in your organization.

To understand more about our plans around both Windows 8 and Windows RT reach out to your local account team. We’re also very interested in your experiences and expectations with the new operating systems, so let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
